The importance of the alt tag for your website
The Alt attribute provides alternative information for images. It allows you to describe your image to search engines so they can understand it.
Our Example throughout this discussion:
Our company uses a content management system (CMS) called WordPress. Our business is located in Fairview Texas. Our Product is Widgets, which we sell online only through our website. We order new widgets every week. We take photos of these widgets with our company digital camera.
Our image is listed as dsc00015.jpg (Picture of a widget).The image is uploaded through WordPress Media. It is than added to page.
If you view the source of the page, the image will closely resemble this <img src= http:// www.yourebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/dsc00015.jpg”>
Does this help the search engines to identify the images? The above example does not help the search engine Identify the image.
Is there a better way?
Yes, the Alt attribute would better define this image.
<img src= “http://www.yourebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/dsc00015.jpg” alt =”widget”>
Can we make it better?
Renaming the image file to make it more descriptive, using the alt tag and adding a location make easier for the search engine to determine the image. By adding the location of the business gives more emphasis to the search engine about the business.
