Cholesterol management may appear to be a daunting task, but if you give your diet and daily routine a little diligence, it’s as easy as making yourself a nice cup of cappuccino. There are essentially two types of cholesterol in our body: the LDL (bad) and HDL (good). If your body has a high level of bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides, you may have to face a disorder known as Hyperlipidemia.

Such a condition can negatively influence your health, as the extra amounts of fat in your body tend to accumulate, blocking the blood vessels leading to problems like shortness of breath, fatigue, and even stroke in worse cases. The levels of HDL (good) cholesterol can also go too low. It can also increase the chances of blockages in arteries and the risk of acquiring atherosclerotic plaque.

Cholesterol Management

You can naturally maintain Cholesterol levels by regulating your daily diet and level of physical activity. It’s crucial that you understand the recommended levels of cholesterol for adults and the ways to manage them, so they don’t go out of balance. Generally, healthcare experts recommend a cholesterol level under 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) for adults. A level above 240 mg/dL is considered high and can lead to various health issues like angina, breathing issues, and vessel blockages.

To manage your cholesterol levels use the following three fixes:

Plan a heart-friendly healthy diet for yourself
Avoid procrastination and become physically active
Quit smoking and drinking excessively

Healthy Diet

Eat less fat! Limit the amounts of red meat and dairy products like cheese, eggs, and items made from whole milk like butter for high cholesterol management. Add organic items to your meals and include more fruit, fresh vegetables, and healthy oils extracted from plant sources. Avoid fried and baked goods that contain trans fats. Eat food with more Fiber as it helps lower LDL by 10%.

Physical Activity & Smoking

A less active routine leads to a decline in HDL levels. It’s good to plan a light workout every day to maintain the amount of good cholesterol in your body. A good HDL level helps get rid of bad LDL from the arteries. Stay active and go for at least 150 minutes of aerobic exercise every week for natural cholesterol management.

 

Excessive smoking and drinking can lead to an imbalance in the cholesterol levels. Quit smoking and limit your intake of alcohol to keep the cholesterol numbers in check.
